International music stars are flocking to Vietnam for concerts and fan meetings

Vietnam has emerged as a sought-after destination for international music stars to hold grand concerts and music programs. A notable example is the 2023 concert by BlackPink (RoK) that attracted over 60,000 audiences. This was followed by an influx of K-pop groups hosting concerts in the country in 2024.

Kicking off 2025 with a bang, the legendary RoK music band 2NE1 reunited in Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate their 15th anniversary. Tens of thousands of fans witnessed the iconic girl band’s explosive performances.

The momentum continues with BABYMONSTER, who recently announced their first concert in Vietnam in May at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC). Tiffany Young, the iconic “smiling eye” of the girl band Girls’ Generation, will also grace the stage with her first solo concert in Vietnam on March 22 at Nguyen Du Stadium.

Beyond music nights, Vietnam has also become a hotspot for fan meetings. Jisoo, a member of BlackPink (RoK), has just announced her upcoming fan meeting in Vietnam, much to the excitement of her Vietnamese fans. The famous female singer will be touring seven Asian cities, including Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, Macau, Taiwan (China), and Hong Kong (China). This marks her second visit to Vietnam after BlackPink’s tour in 2023 and her first solo fan meeting series.

Music tourism takes center stage

Music tourism has become a global trend, especially among young travelers. It’s not just about promoting destinations through music videos; it inspires musical pilgrimages. Social media and other media channels play a significant role in amplifying these events, and when famous artists are involved, the destinations’ attractiveness and recognition soar, creating a powerful draw for tourists.

Asia is witnessing a boom in music tourism events, and Vietnam is no exception. Domestic music stars such as Ha Anh Tuan, My Tam, and Den Vau have regularly organized captivating music programs, with the concerts “Anh Trai Vượt Ngàn Chông Gai” and “Anh Trai Say Hi” standing out as landmark events in the performance industry.

Grand music events featuring international stars have become flagship products for many destinations, driving economic development through tourism. Tourists attending these events utilize local facilities and services, including hotels, restaurants, cafes, and shopping venues.

To tap into the music tourism market effectively, experts suggest that Vietnam continue to attract international stars and become a hub for major art events. Additionally, policies should be crafted to facilitate organizers, stars, and international guests, and travel companies must collaborate with organizers to ensure price stability and enhance their capacity to accommodate large numbers of tourists.

With music stars acting as tourism ambassadors, Vietnam has the potential to showcase its image and culture to the world efficiently and cost-effectively. According to the government’s Cultural Industry Development Strategy, this could contribute to a revenue target of approximately 31 million USD by 2030 for the performance industry.

Cinema, music, fashion, and cultural tourism not only preserve traditional values but also generate significant economic value. Grand concerts are testament to the immense potential of Vietnam’s performance industry and its ability to drive music tourism.
